Lets discuss general health care that we being a pet parent notice while playing or handling our pet.

Without being aware of it , every time we handle our pets we are assessing its health status.
A healthy animal is alert, ready to exercise, constantly observing humans in its environment and generally is a creature of habit. Deviation from normal habits and character may be a cause for concern.
A healthy animal will not have the following symptoms :

* Unpleasant or new odors
* Discharge from the mouth, nose, ears, eyes, body or genital areas.
* Loss of appetite
* Increase in thirst and frequency of urination
* Diarrhea or vomiting
* Difficulty in moving
* Breathing problems
* Unwillingness to exercise

KEEP AN EYE IN THESE SYMPTOMS IF THEY SHOW ANY OF THESE SIGNS , THEY NEED A VET URGENTLY.














Outside their home environment many animals feel stressed. Signs of anxiety and stress in animal include :
* Excessive salivation
* Shivering
* Aggression/fear
* Rapid breathing / panting
* Rapid pulse and heart rate
* Pale mucous membranes











If an animal has a medical condition it respond in one or more of the above listed ways when in strange surroundings. Always take this into account when handling your or others pets. 
Grooming daily is very important to know such changes in pets.

A perfectly healthy and fit dog will benefit from regular swimming. The energy he expends with one minute in the water is equal to the energy spent with four minutes of running, as he has to work harder to keep moving in the water than he does on land. Respiratory, cardio-vascular and muscle systems all benefit from this workout, and it avoids putting heavy pressure on his joints. To promote proper bone density, however, a healthy dog still needs land-based exercise in addition to the water workout.

The no-impact aspect makes swimming an ideal option for a dog before and after orthopedic surgery. Muscle strengthening around the injury is essential and the weightless movement of swimming won't exacerbate the problem. After the surgery and adequate recovery time, a dog can work on improving circulation, strengthening the muscle and joint mobility through swimming, without endangering the surgical repairs. The non-concussive movement of swimming improves the metabolism and burns calories without straining the dog's body.

An Itchy Dog...

YOU HAVE AN ITCHY DOG????    

How many of you have this problem ?? That your dog keeps itching all day but no solution to it.

We will today discuss about some major dog allergies and how can one save their pet from it.

1. ATOPIC DERMATITIS -  If your dog keeps itching specially golden retrievers, labs, lhasa apso etc. all day mostly after the sunset there is a major problem which you have to look after. 
Itching can lead to hair loss, skin becoming flaky, thick and dry .
Solution- Brushing your dog daily , the more you brush your dog the more amount of pollens, fleas etc you can notice, it soothes the skin and also makes your pet look fresh and beautiful.
Do give your pet bath with proper shampoo see to it that the shampoo has oatmeal in it, as oatmeal hydrates the skin and helps the pet to fight against itchiness. 
One can also use fish oil in the food to reduce skin itching .
Sometimes it becomes a habit of your pet to keep itching all day, one can stop that by making them wear tshirts , boots to cover that area up.
If you notice hairloss in the area in which your dog is itching you can also try giving anti-allergic tablets for 15days. If still the problem continues, show to a vet and ask for steroid injections. 

2. FLEA ALLERGY DERMATITIS -  It is the most common problem specially during spring and rainy seasons.  Pet parents can notice fleas on their pets while playing or cuddling them. One can also notice marks as fleas suck blood from their body.
Solution-  One can remove fleas by using Advantix spot on , anti flea shampoo and spray against fleas. Cleaning the environment is very important in this case as we clean the pet up put the fleas in the environment enter their fur coat. One can use tick spray so as to clean the environment and kill the fleas.
You can give your pet an oatmeal spa from a professional groomer even that helps to removes fleas and rejuvenates the pets skin.


3. FOOD ALLERGIES - This usually takes place if high protein is given to the pet - meat, beef, dairy products and chicken.
The symptoms of these allergy is usually facial itching, foot or leg chewing , ear infection and body belly itching. 
Solution- This can be solved by slowly removing high protein products from the diet and adding more veggies, soya and other equivalent products.

WAYS TO STOP DOG ITCHING-

A. Distraction - When your pet tries to itch himself  you can try and pull his attention by a peanut butter or something favorite so that they forget about itching themselves. 

B. Exercise - Giving them regular walks and playing with them keeps them busy and also exhausts them.

C. Cover it up -  If the itching still continues, to avoid it one can make the pet wear a tshirt or a boot so that he doesnt bite those areas. He might even forget that the area was itching.

D. Oatmeal Spa - You can go to any grooming salon and ask the groomer to give your pet an oatmeal spa, or even come to us :)

E. Bowls - Always use steel bowls for feeding your pets, plastic might be another reason why your pet is suffering from allergies and itchy skin.

F. Brush - Brushing your pet is the most important precaution and solution as it helps you know the pet skin and their health, and the  relation between you and pet becomes stronger. 

G. Fish Oil - One can use two spoons of fish oil in your pets meal that helps to make the coat better, shiny and free from any allergies. 


H. Allergy Shots -  If none of the above works out,  you can go to the vet  and ask for anti allergy medication or shots to make your pet better :)

Valentines day with pets... they are the one who teach us the meaning of love...

While valentines day was approaching and the whole atmosphere was full of love..
teddy day , hug day , chocolates day...

What struck  my mind was why not have another special day - PET DAY!!!

We love our pets the most .. so do they love us ..

We still have choices but for them we are the only one source of love and affection...


Kashika's pampered paws and Robust pet care thought of celebrating Valentines day in a different manner ... 

We made a list of some special clients who have always made a special effort towards their pets... as responsible pet parents.

We took out their pictures with their pets...  got them printed on fancy personalized cups... 





 Made a goodies bag with cookies and choosticks ..

Hair loss in pets :)

After i started studying dermatology for pets a lot of new things that i have started learning which i dont think anybody in the city even wishes to know...

HAIR FALL IS A MAJOR TOPIC DISCUSSED IN OUR HOUSEHOLDS.

Some say that their is a problem in my pets eating habit, some consult vets and some stop keeping pets for the problem of hair fall which dirties the house environment.Some famous vets of the city prescribes to change the shampoo and brush their pets daily..

DO YOU REALLY THINK CHANGING PETS SHAMPOO WILL HELP TO STOP HAIR FALL ????WHY DO WE USE OIL FOR OUR SCALP, GO FOR HAIR TREATMENTS AND SPAS ONLY IF CHANGING SHAMPOOS COULD HELP .

LETS NOW DISCUSS SOME BASIC CAUSES OF HAIR FALL :-

1. SYMMETRICAL ALOPECIA - This is also known as hormonal alopecia. it is mostly seen in neutered cats and dogs.. starts with the anal gland and then in the abdominal and groin areas.

2. SERTOLI CELL TUMOR -  This is a testicular tumor seen in middle-aged and old dogs. The hair loss is seen bilaterally in the flanks, around the anal region, abdomen, and groin areas.

3. EXTERNAL PARASITES - Hair loss associated with parasites is usually seen in a localized area, where the animal has been scratching itself, e.g with surface/subsurface parasites (fleas,lice and mites). Hair loss due to ring worms ( dermatitides or fungal spores) infection occurs in circular areas.The affected area has red, raised circular margin.

4. Calluses - These are located, in particular, on the elbows and hock region of heavy dogs, and are caused by excessive pressure on the area from a hard surface. Hair loss and thickening of the skin are seen.

NOW THAT ALL OF US KNOW WHY OUR PETS SUFFER FROM HAIR LOSS.When next time we see excessive hair loss from our pets skin we can ask the vets that we know the reason and to give proper solution for the problem.
